Akash Network X USC Build Night

USC Blockchain hosted a hands-on Build Night in collaboration with Akash Network, bringing together students from across the University of Southern California to explore decentralized cloud computing firsthand.

What Happened

The event drew students from computer science, engineering, and business programs — many encountering Akash for the first time. Attendees were guided through the process of deploying real applications on the Akash Network: from setting up a wallet, to writing an SDL deployment file, to watching their app go live on decentralized infrastructure.

The format was deliberately practical. Rather than lectures, participants spent most of the evening with their laptops open, shipping actual deployments. Community members and Akash contributors were on hand to answer questions and help debug.

Why It Matters

Events like this are how the next generation of builders discovers that there’s an alternative to centralized cloud. For many students at the Build Night, it was their first experience with permissionless compute — and the reaction to seeing a live deployment in minutes, at a fraction of the cost of AWS, was exactly what you’d hope for.

USC Blockchain continues to be a driving force in bringing real blockchain infrastructure to student developers. More events are planned — follow along on X for updates.
